![]() The goal of the Second Chance Village is to provide a viable path for the chronically homeless to become self sufficient. Sage Lewis talks to residents at one of their mandatory weekly meetings at the Second Chance Village in Akron. Less than a year later it looks more like this: The picture in that article is of our basement on that day. Homeless People In Akron Have Some Ideas After Being Asked to Leave the Freedom Trail | WKSU Kabir Bhatia from WKSU was one of the first reporters on that story. Second Chance Village was started because a group was kicked out of the space where Freedom Trail was being built. It’s absurdly comical that officials shut down camps in the middle of the winter. I just got word yesterday that the city of Akron is shutting down the outreach camp we’ve been working with. ![]() This is about a Camp site we have been helping remotely near Haven of Rest. Very caring people. To be clear : THIS IS NOT TALKING ABOUT Second Chance VILLAGE. Love this place, I been volunteer here once a week for a year. When volunteering i was able to give back to the community and food pretty good for a homeless shelter They take people that has no place to go and gives them a chance to get their lives back if they want it. It is superb in all the services it offers! There is no place like it that I know of. None of what the other 2 said ever happend to me at the haven.i was there quite awhile saved my money and moved on. Changing lives for those who want it truly all in as a team okay you go guys!!!!!! ![]() Shelters in the state all cross the broard. Its like a incarcerated night life in there and so much religion which makes you go away from God. This place is here to help the homeless but it does alot more damage then good. ![]() Was their along time ago was drugged out stayed 1 night reminded me of the work house it inspired me to get my a_ up thank you always remember its not where you are its where your going. Food is very good, and by all first-impressions, the staff truly cares about their clients and residents. All spaces are immaculately maintained and cleaned. And if you are married they tail u that u can talk to our kids and wife or husband And run it like a jail and staff takes home donation stuff when it gets there. They give bad Milk to woman and children. They do house men and women with children in separate facilities of course. They serve a breakfast lunch and dinner however only lunch and dinner are open to the public but all three meals require a church service prior to being fed. The reason it is given 2 Stars is because it is a homeless shelter and it is not recommended housing. This is a homeless shelter with 100 beds. I would encourage you to support and pray for this place, because it is an actual ministry that really seems to be changing lives. Clearly, God is in there and working with these people to give these addicts and homeless people a better life in Him. In addition, I felt the spirit of God in this place. I stayed in probably around 10 of them in my life. For a homeless shelter, this is the nicest one that I have ever seen. They explained all the reasons for the rules they have on the short term side, such as not bringing your belongings into the bunk rooms (for bedbugs) and I can understand that. On the other end, where it is the people that just come in off the streets, it was pretty nice too. What I saw was very nice on the long-term commitment end. Having been homeless for about a year and four months (10 years ago), I know something about this lifestyle. I got to see all the facilities and learn about policies and procedures. However, me and another friend took a tour of this place today. I have never stayed here at this shelter.
